Coach Michael Massucci: Educator - Author - Team/Performance Consultant
Coach Michael Massucci is an educator and recent author of: An Elite Journey: A Young Man’s Leadership Story. He is a graduate of Central Michigan University (1992) where he earned a major in history, a minor in reading, and a professional coaching certificate. He later earned his master’s degree from Oakland University (2000) in Reading and Language Arts. Coach Massucci has also completed the Galileo Leadership Program, has been trained in the Steven Covey Leadership Program, and was trained by the Disney Leadership Institute.
Coach Massucci is President of AEO: Leadership LLC, which is designed to help student-athletes become their ELITE self. The values of Attitude-Excellence-Others (AEO) are the core of his mission and his message. Using the principles from his book, Coach Massucci is currently consulting a number of high school teams, athletic departments, and organizations striving to become better.
Coach Massucci is also the Educational/Leadership facilitator for Michigan Elite 25. This program was founded by former NBA player Tim McCormick, who is currently the director of the NBA TOP 100 camp and NBA Rookie Transition camp; and Mike Dietz, the President and founder of Dietz Sports and Entertainment. Michigan Elite 25(E25) is a leadership and skill developmental program reserved for the top basketball players in the state of Michigan. Coach Massucci is also excited about bringing his AEO message to Competitive Edge Skating and Strength Training, which specializes in training hockey players, but offers mental conditioning, as well as skill and strength development for all athletes.
Coach Massucci’s coaching experience includes being an assistant basketball coach at Detroit Country Day in 1994 when, led by former NBA star Shane Battier, won the 1994 Michigan state championship. He then became the head basketball coach at Royal Oak Shrine. In 16 years he led the Knights to four divisional championships, 10 appearances in the Catholic League Playoff semi-finals, and four Catholic League Finals appearances. Shrine also won one State District Title during his tenure. Coach Massucci earned Catholic League Coach of the Year four different times and was named Michigan Regional Coach of the Year by BCAM (Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan.) Coach Massucci left the boys basketball position at Shrine as the school's all time leader in wins. Coach Massucci also coached in an international tournament in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria where his team from Michigan finished in the Final Four.
Coach Massucci was also the varsity basketball coach at Royal Oak High School from 2011-2015, where he still runs summer camps and clinics. Coach Massucci currently lives in Royal Oak, Michigan with his wife Karen and his three sons AJ, Anthony, and Jake. He is employed by Bloomfield Hills Schools, where he teaches American History and a mindset class.
